Cleveland Rocks!
First Eddie, then Bowie... and in March -- QUEEN!!
Well, half of them anyway (and the guy from Bad Company). We got the tickets for Christmas, floor seats. In honor of the completion of my life's concert-attending goals, I'm reposting my Bowietastic posts from two years ago:

Oh... my... GAWD!!
I am just now getting settled in after returning from the BEST concert I have ever had the fortune to attend. An acquaintance (and fast friend) from some of my fiction classes, Nikki, invited me last quarter to the Cleveland Bowie gig that would be happening, well, this night. Of course I said I wanted to go. I tried not to get too excited cos I wasn't sure of all the arrangements and didn't want to be disappointed if we didn't end up getting to go.
Well, we did and it was WONDERFUL. I have never really had the opportunity to see a concert with someone I really liked and was familiar with because most of my favorite artists/bands either broke apart/stopped touring or they're dead. It was so great because I've loved him since I saw Labyrinth when I was 8 years old. Just fabulous.
He opened with Rebel Rebel and closed (at the encore, actually) with Ziggy Stardust. I nearly died. It almost topped SEXIE except that Nikki and I decided it was best I not compare them because they were different mediums and could both be the best at the same time.
Anyway, I'm completely knackered. I'll tell more tomorry. I just wanna say now that Bowie is really funny and he swears a lot. That is all for now...
Until next time, Young Americans (and other Earthlings, including those afraid of Americans)

Life is soooo good.
Or maybe I'm just still floating on cloud nine from the other night. Yeah, so I lied and waited till the wee hours of the next day to finish with part II, what's it to ya?
Anyway, to sum up the trip there in three memorable phrases:
"Your nipple is not supposed to be a pus button."
"Which came first, the potato or the egg?"
and finally
"Sorry, I sorta got off on a transient there."
I had been nervous about the trip to Cleveland and back because I really don't know Nikki that well and I'd never met her mom or the dude that was coming with us. I was never faster friends with anyone. We're all very silly, relaxed people. I was totally comfortable in less than five minutes. The hurricanes we had at the Hard Rock Café (where we sat directly across from their own little David Bowie section) didn't hurt things either. We ate there before the show and each have a collector's glass to commemorate the visit.
Macy Gray opened. She's very strange but I love her music in a "I dig the sounds from Seventies porn and, no, I'm not talkin about the actors!" kind of way. We quivered with anticipation after she finished her set. Finally, when we were at our antsiest, Dave and his band took the stage and he greeted the crowd. He basically repeated the same thing Macy Gray had said when she took the stage and it was something like, "Hey Cleveland, how you motherfuckers doin?" Then the familiar guitar riff from Rebel Rebel rang in our ears. He was off to a great start. He played a lot of my favorites, the good old shit like: All The Young Dudes, Fame, The Man Who Sold the World, Heroes, Changes, and the most beautiful version of Life On Mars? I've ever heard. He also did a lot of '80s faves like Ashes to Ashes, Fashion, China Girl, and (perhaps one of the more orgasmic experiences for me that night) Under Pressure. He played some of his newer hits, too, though nothing off of hours... which was only slightly disappointing considering all the other songs performed. One of my favorite parts of the show was during I'm Afraid of Americans. At the line, "Johnny combs his hair and Johnny wants pussy and cars," he held his crotch provocatively for the longest duration creamingly possible for us to withstand. It's funny cos, other than in Labyrinth I never found him sexy... until what will forever be officially known as "Bowienight." An experience topped off by Bowie himself saying at the end of the concert "Thank you so much. You have made a cold night warm."
Let's see, what else. Yes, he was funny; he said 'fuck' a lot. And he played the longest encore I've ever had the pleasure of singing and dancing to (for a little more about that, see part I).
The lights came up and we left the arena with all our overpriced merchandise, a little warmer against the cold as we ventured out in the snow to the car.
All excited out, it was difficult to stay awake in the car on the way back but we managed by keeping the laughter going and talking about scary video games from the '90s.
I had no voice when I woke up in the morning. I still don't have much of a voice. I think I may have permanently damaged it... but that's ok.
Bowie was worth it.

P.S.: Happy 57th, Mr. Bowie. Thanks for spending the night before your b-day with us.
